Why Simplifying Your Skincare Routine Might Be the Better Thing for Your Skin

What beauty shelves and my skin both needed: space

Why Simplifying Your Skincare Routine Might Be the Better Thing for Your Skin

Do you enjoy browsing beauty stores like Ulta or Sephora? I used to love it too.

There was something magical about those glowing shelves—new cleansers, serums that promised miracles, moisturizers that claimed to turn back time. I’d walk out with a bag full of beautiful jars and bottles, convinced that more steps meant better skin.

I had a cleanser for every mood:

  • oil-based,

  • water-based,

  • foam,

  • balm,

  • micellar water...
and of course, a separate one for eye makeup.

Then came the toners, essences, ampoules, moisturizers (light, heavy, gel, cream), sleeping masks, exfoliators—ten steps on a regular night felt like the bare minimum.

I thought I was doing something good for my skin. But my bathroom shelves were overflowing. So many half-used products. So much money spent. So much plastic.

And my skin? It wasn’t getting better. If anything, it was irritated, dry, or suddenly breaking out. I felt overwhelmed—not just by the routine, but by the pressure to always try the next thing.

What My Skin Actually Needed Was Less

Turns out, skin doesn’t need constant disruption. It needs balance. A calm, healthy barrier. And when I stopped overloading it with products, I saw real change:

✔️ Less redness and irritation
✔️ Fewer breakouts
✔️ A clearer routine and a clearer mind
✔️ Less waste and more space (physically and mentally)

So I Created a Better Option

I used to be a total maximalist—especially when it came to skincare. But little by little, I started cutting back. That shift eventually led me, as the founder of Tidalove, to team up with a Korean skincare lab and create something super simple but surprisingly effective: a solid serum in single-use beads.

Each tiny bead contains:

  • Clean, concentrated ingredients

  • No synthetic fragrances

  • No unnecessary fillers or harsh chemicals

  • Just what your skin needs to stay hydrated, calm, and balanced

It melts into the skin effortlessly, absorbs beautifully, and leaves you feeling nourished and refreshed—with no need for multiple steps.

One Step. One Intention.

Now, my skincare looks like this:

🌞 A gentle cleanser
🌤 Sunscreen (if I go out)
🌙 Solid serum at night

That’s it. My skin is healthier. My counter is clear. And I spend less time and money trying to fix what was never broken.

Simplifying didn’t just help my skin—it brought ease and joy back to something that had become a chore.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your skincare routine, maybe it’s time to try less.

Sometimes, less really is more.

With love,
